Since last week was about establishing your ideas for a research agenda, the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) has made available a plethora of opportunities that might interest you in terms of conducting research in your specific field. With OUR, there are grant monies that can be awarded to fund your research projects. While this may not be something you wish to take on as freshmen, certainly be thinking of this opportunity and be mindful that OUR opportunities are released every FALL and many folks that apply do get awarded.

List of faculty mentors (selection of a faculty mentor is required to participate in research): https://www.lamar.edu/undergraduate-research/mentor-directory/index.html
On a personal note, I worked with a student on an undergraduate research project in 2017 and was funded by the OUR that same year. In 2018, she conducted her study as a senior and wrote an article for publication about it. Just this past week the article we co-wrote about her study was accepted with SAGE publications, one of the largest publishers in the world that includes research in all academic areas. You’ll see SAGE publications in the LU Library database and a host of other places. Link to Story: http://tilisathibodeaux.com/wordpress/?page_id=2336

Getting involved with research is one way to combine your passion with your interests moving forward and develop a new avenue of thinking for yourself and in your field. So, think about this opportunity and envision your future.
Check the panel discussion (September 11) and due dates below in the attachments below. One requirement is the presentation of your research project at the spring OUR conference – fyi.
